The Golden Vision

“The health and safety of our residents, openness and transparency within our city government, and responsible management of our financial resources have been and will continue to be my top priorities as your City Councilmember.”

— Julian A. Gold, M.D.

Health

I have spent my life supporting the health of our community. Whether it is as a physician taking care of one patient at a time, or as a councilmember looking to improve the health of our entire community, this has been my calling. It is the reason I worked to create new public health programs within our city. The nurse practitioner (NP1) allows a nurse practitioner to provide care after the paramedics have left and to follow-up with our vulnerable population to keep them out of the emergency room. The “Stop the Bleed” program teaches our residents how to care for their neighbor in the event of a traumatic injury. I introduced the bans on e-cigarettes and on the sale of tobacco in our city and worked to ban smoking in multifamily housing. Our primary focus must remain on the health of our community and I pledge to continue to work towards that end. We must be on the cutting edge on new concepts and technologies to keep our community healthy.

Safety

Safety and health are tied as our number one priority. I have worked to ensure our safety services, the police and fire departments, are fully staffed, that they have the best equipment and that our city continues to invest in new technologies which make their jobs easier and our public safer. Whether it is new fire trucks, a new police mobile command center, drone technology or CCTV-we need to continue to insure we have the best. My commitment is to provide our safety services with everything they need to keep us safe.

Strategic Planning

In 2018, as your Mayor , I created the City's Strategic Planning Committee. The goal was to have a group of our committed residents evaluate different parts of the city and to present a future vision to the City Council. We must be proactive in our planning, not reactive. The next years will see enormous change around us. Whether it is on the east side of the city with the subway, the west side with the new Hilton proposal or the Golden Triangle with all the new building there, we will need to manage change. It is important to be proactive in understanding how we, as a community, envision the future.

Open Communication

I serve at the will of the public. As such, I have always believed that I must be accessible to that public. My door is always open, my phone number available. This is my commitment. This is a policy I promise to continue.

Fiscal Management

The best intentions are meaningless unless we have the financial ability to accomplish them. I believe that although we are a fiscally solvent city, we do not have endless resources and that I must be a responsible steward of those resources. Every program we consider, every building we build and every property we purchase must be fiscally viable. Additionally, there are long term obligations like pensions which must be considered in the evaluation of the long term viability of the city. I have been and will continue to be a strong proponent for our city’s fiscal responsibility.
